Mardi Gras Run

Well, this was a much anticipated run but unfortunately it came a bit late. Was planning this hiking route so that I can help a friend train up for his Nepal trip in early November. Guess too late liao.

Anyway, SGRunners met up at Lower Pierce Reservoir (LPR) toilet at 7am. DR give a short briefing and off we go! First toilet break is at Seletar Reservoir (near the tower). Then we took a shortcut through Nee Soon Range across bart wire and forested area. Poor DO and some of the advance party that was leading the way encounter soft grounds. We had to backtrack to the fork and go the other way (right). Along the way, there is this big pipe on the left. So that will be one of the markers. Erh ... after that I think I am shag out to remember liao. But I'm familiar with the part from Macritche to Bukit Timah Nature Reserve. So probably I need to do a hike by myself and do some marking. Hit the visitor centre in Bukit Timah Nature Reserve, took the much anticipated break stop to refuel and went back the way we came.

Along the way back at SICC, met a colleague with her family taking a nature walk. Last 5km went by quite quickly and we reach our end point. Total distance 30+ km over roughly 4hr15mins.

Do a quick warm down, shower and went over to Sembawang hill for makan. Was hoping to get Kuay Chup but already sold out! Then I chance upon Lor Mee! Did not give a second thought and I ordered it. :-) Next time, I'm going to get the Kuay Chup, Carrot Cake or the Fried Kuay Teow.

Company Declared Holiday

What do you do on a company declared holiday?

I go gym loh. I can't afford to let my body rest more than one day. So did some weights and went for steam bath. Did not do any running cos the next day will be a tough one.

Then went to GNC to buy some GU Energy Gel for the next day. Was looking for other flavours that had no caffein. So far only banana is non-caffeinated. Went home to check the website also confirm so.

Not so lucky day ..

Wake up around 7.30am. Had a good sleep after a tiring day yesterday.

Was planning to go to gym after having breakfast but was interrupted by a call from the fab. Alas, there goes my Sunday. Went to fab to take a look and was able to resolve it in a jiffy. Well, by then was almost 11am. So check some emails and make plans for lunch at North Point. Had the Pataya Egg covered rice. Taste so so.
Then another office call, so end up returning to office. Solve the problem and make use of the chance to upload the wedding run photos.

Animiles Run, Wedding Run & 1st month celebration

Wake up at 3:30am in the morning. Actually did not sleep much, only fall asleep after 2 plus.

Took the cab at 4am and reach Lower Pierce Reservoir (LPR) carpark with 15mins buffer to warm up and clear the bowel.

Start at 4:50am and follow Broken Runner's pace all the way. The route is nice. We turn into Seletar Reservoir route as what Doraemon suggested. Did not go all the way to the zoo gate. At the junction we U-turn back, it's about 12km at that spot. Pace is around 6 - 6.30 min/km.

We were slightly late when we got back to LPR. The group was already waiting to start off the wedding run. I quickly grab the videocam and start shooting. Although suppose to be a leisure run but it's still quite siong. We had a break for water melon and rock melon. Do some photo shooting for the couple and went back to LPR. The couple had a memorable day with lots of fun and laughter (mainly from Andy).

Most of the runners had to run their errands and had to leave after the activity. The remaining went over to Sembawang Hill Food Centre to have a quick bite. I order the Bakuteh and is so so, passable. The carrot cake smells very good but I resist the temptation to order. Maybe next time.

Took a ride from Cookie (with Cfred and Cosmic Wind) to Novena. Tag along Cfred to check out the Addidas store. Then at MRT we split on to our way.

I head towards Toa Payoh where my friend is staying. Arrive way too early, around 12pm, and the couple had yet to get back. So I try to nap at the void deck.

When the couple was back, they give me a wake up call and I went up. Took a quick shower and started to take pictures of the baby, the gifts, the fish tank, etc.

By 3.30pm, most of the guests had arrived. By then I was pretty tired, so I quickly took a few more shots and left.

Chinese Garden MRT Accident 20061018

Happen to be taking the train at 10:15pm plus yesterday night after the run. And heard over the announcement that there will be no train service from Jurong East to Boon Lay MRT as there is an accident at Chinese Garden MRT.

Suay lol! Had to alight at Jurong East MRT to take feeder bus 335 back. Along the route, it pass by Chinese Garden MRT, saw a train stop at mid way entering the station; fire engines; ambulance and police cars. Not a good sign..

Heard from a colleague this morning while taking the company bus to work .. a guy jump into the track.

My personal thoughts: I think these incidents had been on the rise. Last time round was a guy push a lady onto the track but luckily no fatal acident.

NUS Hill Run 20061018

Did another 15km @ 1hr 22min with Doraemon yesterday.

Route: NUS Guild Hse -> Haw Par Villa -> Pepsys? Rd -> Kent Ridge -> Science Park I -> Underpass to South Buona Vista -> Ulu Pandan Canal -> Clementi Rd -> NUS Guild Hse

Having hip pain when doing warm down walk. Today still in pain.

Quote of the day

"There are peaks, there are valleys. But they're all kind of carved and smoothed out, and it feels like a low level of despair you live in. Where you're not getting any answers, but you're living OK. And you can smile at the office. You know? But it's a low level of despair. You know?" - comedic actor Jim Carrey

A typical man

Life is not always fair. You gain some, you lose some. There are people who are less fortunate than you. So why am I complaining?

Because I am a typical man.

Man is never at peace with oneself and can never be pleased with what he have.

Esplanade Run

Okay, after resting for 3 days, did a 20+ km run with Doraemon starting from Esplanade, along kallang, loop East Coast at NSRCC and ends at Fort Road. I was really running by mental at the last stretch to Fort Road. Keep asking Doraemon where is the toilet. So sorry to pull down Doraemon on her LSD training again.

Problems: Left arm always felt numb during the run. Serious could lead to neck ache. Next is my sweat glands. It does not sweat freely! It's like stuck and that irritates me as it will lead to my body heating up.

Lethargic I

Body was feeling very lethargic after not exercising properly since last Thursday and also partially due to the flu and cough. Went to gym yesterday for a light workout. Was working on the stepper machine and right thigh suddenly went taut and almost cramp. Strange!

Will see whether today can go down to gym again. May try to jog if the cough ease a bit.

Gameover

When you are given the red card by the referee,
can you still stay on the field and play?
When you commited 5 fouls in a basketball match,
can you still stay on the court and play?

Cambodia Trip, 20060928

Just came back from a 4D3N company trip at Cambodia. It's a guided tour to Angkor Wat and some other temple sites. The guide also squeese in a visit to the temple of the overgrown trees that was shown in the movie, Tomb Raider.

As usual, I had some stupid thing to relate for this trip.

It started off with a slight flu when I woke up in the morning of the departure day. And then I miscalculated the time it took me to airport via public transport. My flight was 8.40am and I arrived at the checkin counter at 8.05am. The airport staff initially told me the checkin was closed. But after I mention I can hand carry my luggage, he help me to check with his supervisor. Finally got clearance but he mention no meals.* Well, meals or no meals I'm still going to catch this flight. So he process my boarding pass and is pen written because the system already closed. He then escort me to the security gate personally. After a breeze clearance at the security, I started to double up towards the boarding gate. Phew!

And during the trip, one sad thing happen, my camera went low battery after taking 450+ photos. Strange! I remember charging it fully and in the past, it should at least last me three days. And worst off is I did not bring the charger or get a spare battery. Luckily I manage to take most of the pictures at Angkor Wat, so did not lose much.

Lastly, I came back with the flu and the cough.

All in all, the trip was enjoyable. Seam Reap is a pretty small place, many of the places are still rural. The place is quite safe for you to walk around even in the night. But as tourism is growing, the standard of living also went higher.

Here's the spoils from the trip.

*Later then I realised that another colleague arrived 5 minutes later and was not allow to checkin! Lucky me!
